Genoma España was created in 2002 with the aim to achieve a globally competitive position in the field of Applied Genomics research

Spain needed organizations that would help boost the biotechnology sector acting as a liaison between research groups, investor capital, biotech companies and civil society (the way nearby countries were operating)
Genoma España’s bylaws were revised and approved by the Board of Trustees in June, 2009, so the Foundation is currently more focused on promoting knowledge-based value creation as well as it gives strong and explicit support to innovation within the strategic areas of the National R&D&I Plan, stressing the importance of biotechnology.
